Episode 38: The Power of the Vagus Nerve

SHOW NOTES:

The vagus nerve is the tenth cranial nerve, and it interfaces with the parasympathetic control of the heart, lungs, and digestive tract. The vagus nerve goes from the brainstem all the way to the colon.  It provides many functions of regulating heart rate, blood pressure, digestion and senses pain receptors.
We know that stress and emotional distress play a role in development of disease or symptoms in the body. The better vagal tone you have the better you can handle stress so it does not get to a place where it is contributing to dis-ease in the body.
Is there a way we can strengthen vagal tone to reduce stress related illness and make us more resilient?  The answer is yes!  Tune in to learn how counting to five can improve your vagal tone and improve our mood, reduce stress and anxiety and even boost energy.
